About Skills for Entrepreneurs

John teaching class in Skills for Entrepreneurs

Skills for Entrepreneurs is run by me, John di Stefano, teaching and supporting entrepreneurs to learn the skills every entrepreneur needs to create a better life for themselves and the people around them.

Who is John di Stefano

I’m a family guy, in my mid-fifties, who learned and practiced entrepreneurship since my early twenties. I lived in several European countries and ran eight companies during that time. The Entrepreneur Academy is my number nine, with Skills for Entrepreneurs as the main outlet.

Like many entrepreneurs, I had my ups and downs and went from amazing times all the way down to really bad times and ending in losing all my savings, straight into debt. But I got myself out it with the help of my family and many people I met along the way. If that was you, thanks again for all your help and advice.

How did Skills for Entrepreneurs begin

All the things I’ve learned during my career have put me where I am today. Along the way I had so many reasons to give up and believe me, there were many times when that was all I wanted to do. I didn’t! Not because I was so strong and focused on my success, but because of my family and friends who pushed me not to give up. And I am glad they did.

Driven by the idea to help others become successful entrepreneurs and the knowledge that many new entrepreneurs don’t have that kind of support, in 2014, I made up my mind to become a teacher and supporter of entrepreneurs.

A few years ago, I was invited to speak at a public conference about entrepreneurship, the struggles and rewards, and what we, as seasoned entrepreneurs, could do to support new entrepreneurs.

After this conference, so many people, inspired by what I said, came to me and asked me for advice. Their questions often came down to fear of losing everything and about not having any support and ran all the way towards discussing business ideas and how to find out what to do next.

That’s when I knew that I was on the right path and a picture started to develop in my mind, and as more I spoke about it as stronger became that feeling, that this is what I need to do.

Why I do what I do

My family is my main motivator, especially my granddaughter who told me outright, that she wants to become an entrepreneur when she is 10 years old. What can I say, I have to get ready.

I am especially thankful to my wife who has always supported me in my adventures and pushed me to keep going when things didn’t go as they should.

Working with John, even if for a few short sessions, has been refreshing, energizing and also (positively) challenging.

Cristian Roja, Engineer

As a novice in this field, the most important lesson that I’ve learned is that it all comes down to taking that first step towards your goal. Even if it’s a small one, it still counts. It’s the hardest, but most important. After that, everything will come together.

The coaching sessions with John are always very productive. John really challenges our ideas. He forces us to focus on the next step to take without losing ourselves in big ideas and complexity.
